Die US-Airline fliegt in der Sommersaison ab Mai direkt von Berlin nach New York, von München nach Detroit und von Zürich nach Atlanta. Ab Ende März startet der Carrier erstmals von Amsterdam nach Orlando in Florida.

Die insolvente Fluggesellschaft streicht alle Langstrecken ab Berlin, umfassender und früher als zunächst angekündigt. Nach Abu Dhabi, Los Angeles, Chicago und San Francisco und von Düsseldorf nach Boston fliegt Airberlin nur noch bis zum 1. Oktober. Der erste von zwei täglichen Abu-Dhabi-Flügen von Berlin aus, werde sogar schon ab dem 18. September gestrichen. Betroffene Passagiere würden auf andere Flüge umgebucht, sofern es Platz gäbe, teilt die Airline mit.
Die Veränderungen gelten ab 29. Oktober. Der insolvente Carrier fliegt dann nicht mehr von Berlin nach New York und San Francisco sowie von Düsseldorf nach Boston. Auf der Strecke Düsseldorf – Los Angeles fällt der Donnerstag-Flug weg, es bleiben vier Flüge pro Woche. Von der NRW-Hauptstadt geht es künftig nur noch fünfmal wöchentlich nach Orlando, die Dienstag- und Donnerstagfrequenz wurde aus den Reservierungssystemen gelöscht.

Vom 1. Mai an fliegt die Airline viermal pro Woche von Düsseldorf in die kanadische Metropole Toronto. Außerdem startet Airberlin ab 2. Mai fünfmal wöchentlich nach Chicago.
Künftig werden von der TSA ausnahmslos alle Geräte im Handgepäck überprüft, die größer als ein Smartphone sind – also etwa eReader, Tablets und Notebooks. Alle Geräte müssen ohne Abdeckung in gesonderte Kisten gelegt und Mitarbeitern der Flugsicherheit übergeben werden.
Die angekündigten Langstrecken von Berlin-Tegel nach Los Angeles und San Francisco starten statt Anfang Mai erst Mitte und Ende Mai. Als Grund dafür nennt CEO Thomas Winkelmann die andauernden Abfertigungsprobleme an dem Berliner Airport. Bestehende Buchungen sollen über Düsseldorf abgewickelt werden.
Die Küstenstraße ist in Höhe des Pfeiffer-Canyons rund 200 Kilometer südlich von San Francisco gesperrt. Ein Erdrutsch hat die Brücke so schwer beschädigt, dass ein Einsturz droht und eine neue gebaut werden muss. Dies wird mindestens ein Jahr dauern.

Nach der kritischen Diskussion um die Orca-Shows stellt sich das Unternehmen neu auf und setzt jetzt auf Achterbahnen, mit Virtual Reality gepimpte Fahrgeschäfte und Orcas in einer natürlicheren Lebensumgebung. Ziel ist es, einen Imagewandel herbeizuführen und neue Besuchergruppen anzusprechen.

Die US-Airline bedient die Strecke vom 24. Mai bis zum 3. September. Zum Einsatz kommt eine Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner mit 219 Plätzen, davon 70 in Economy-Plus- und 36 in Business-Class. Uniteds Star-Alliance Partner Lufthansa fliegt die Route bereits täglich.
